S11 INDUCTION Mining Course Australia

The Standard 11 (S11) Induction, also known as the “Generic Induction,” is a safety course specifically designed for the mining industry. Similar to the construction industry’s “white card,” the S11 Induction is more in-depth, teaching generic safety protocols, rules, and procedures applicable to most mines. The course also covers correctly filling out safety documentation and interpreting site safety signs.

The S11 Induction is designed for both experienced and inexperienced workers interested in the mining sector. Basic English skills are required to understand the course content. The S11 Induction is mandatory for most mines in Queensland and serves as a pathway into the mining sector. While not always required in other states, completing the course demonstrates a proactive approach to safety, which can be beneficial for those new to the industry.

Upon successful completion of the S11 Induction, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment that is valid for five years. This statement covers six units of competency:

• RIIERR205D – Apply initial response first aid: Assessing situations, applying basic first aid, and completing incident reports.
• RIIGOV201D – Comply with site work processes/procedures: Accessing and applying site safety procedures, maintaining personal safety, and completing site-related forms and reports.
• RIIRIS201D – Conduct local risk control: Identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing control measures in a mine environment.
• RIICOM201D – Communicate in the workplace: Utilising site communication equipment and systems, engaging in work-related communication, and completing written documentation.
• RIIERR302D – Respond to local emergencies and incidents: Preparing for and responding to emergencies in a mine environment.

The acquired skills can also be applied towards more advanced mining qualifications, such as:

• RII20213 Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations

• RII30713 Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue
