OBJECTIONS
If you are exploring the option of operating machinery within the mining industry and are concerned you might not be able to take part due to various reasons, we may have the solutions for you.
Please see if any of your concerns are answered below, and as always please feel free to call us on 1300 414 341 for a confidential chat about your choices.
I DON’T KNOW IF I COULD DRIVE A TRUCK – I’VE NEVER DRIVEN SOMETHING SO BIG BEFORE
We understand your concerns about driving such huge machinery and want to reassure you that after completing our training you will have the capabilities.
We have adopted a BUDDY SYSTEM – there is always someone there to guide you and steer you in the right direction.
You are provided with your own trainer and truck, which gives you maximum drive time. The My Solution Training facilitators combine the right mix of patience, empathy, experience and dedication to immediately put you at ease when undertaking our mining courses.
While these machines are large, the maximum speed limit when operating is 30-40km per hour.
You are driving in a controlled environment, with strict safety protocols, so it is very different to driving on public roads with unpredictable drivers and varying speed limits.
Our course training has been designed to give you plenty of real-time experience for the following:-
DUMP TRUCK :– driving on site / reversing to the excavator / loaded by an excavator / driving loaded / dumping loads / using radio communications / horn signalling.
WATER TRUCK: – driving on site / filling the truck / dispersing water in correct pattern / using radio communications / horn signalling.
LOADER:– loading trucks / shifting stockpiles / feeding crushers / using radio communications / horn signalling.
I AM TOO OLD / TOO YOUNG / TOO SHORT / TOO TALL
AGE
If you’re worried you’re too young or too old to launch a new career in mining – DON’T LET AGE STOP YOU!
With regards to maximum age, we have had people 18 – 63 years of age get employed after doing this course.
REMEMBER – Every employer is different and looks for different things in their prospective employees, so do not listen to people when they say, “I got told …”, or “My mate said …”.
HEIGHT AND WEIGHT
Height is not a concern in the industry. (We had a trainer who is 4ft 8” and had operated machinery for years within the mining industry.)
With regards to weight or physical fitness, there is generally no specific rule.
The main requirement is you can climb into the machinery and sit in the seat for up to 12 hours.
I HEAR THEY ARE ONLY EMPLOYING FEMALES / MALES
Thanks to equal opportunities, both male and females are employable for all mining jobs and do get jobs, so do not let gender stop you from following your dreams.
I DON’T HAVE A HR LICENCE
There is no specific class driver’s licence required however we suggest that most private mining companies’ minimum conditions would be a provisional licence (P plates).
I HAVE TROUBLE READING / WRITING / SPELLING
Do you have a learning difficulty, whereby you believe you can’t complete this type of training? DON’T WORRY! The My Solution Training facilitators are amazing and can help you throughout the entire course.
We have had people complete our course with the following learning difficulties:-
- Dyslexia
- Issues with reading, writing, spelling
- English not being their main language
The S11 Mining Induction training is an open-booked course where you are learning in a group. The trainer talks you through all the learning material and you works as a group when answering the questions. If you still require additional assistance we are happy to help but we must be made aware of your issues BEFORE you attend the course, so we can make the appropriate arrangements to offer you the best assistance.
REMEMBER:- Most of the course is based on commonsense safety.
At the end of the Platinum course, we will provide you with a list of mining “lingo” (jargon) to help you feel more comfortable before starting a job onsite.
I HAVE PHYSICAL DISABILITIES
If you have a medical condition you are concerned about, please contact us on 1300 414 341.
If you have a condition that is controlled by medication, it is advisable to get a letter from your specialist or GP that gives you clearance to operate machinery. In preparation for employment, we suggest you organise your medical approval as soon as you can.
We have had people with various disabilities including:- type 2 diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, loss of vision in one eye, prosthetic limb, and more, who all passed the mining medical and have since been employed in the mining industry.
I HAVE NEVER WORKED IN ANYTHING RELATED TO MINING OR CONSTRUCTION OR PHYSICAL
Many people are concerned that their prior work history is not related to mining, yet we can assure you that will not stop you from getting a job. My Solution Training has helped people successfully gain employment from all types of backgrounds, including:-
