WHAT IS THE COURSE FOR?

Anyone wishing to gain entry level roles as a Machinery Operator within the mining / quarrying sector.

WHO CAN UNDERTAKE THIS COURSE?

This course is designed for both experienced and inexperienced operators of large machinery.
You are required to have basic English skills so if you have learning difficulties or are new to the country and feel that language may be a barrier, it is best to call us on 0490 057 435 so we can chat – do not let this stop you from completing your course

WHY DO THIS COURSE?

Whilst the mines will take you through training as an entry level person, you are increasing your chances of gaining employment as the employer knows that you have the basic skills to get in and operate the machine.

As the dump trucks and the water trucks are normally the same or similar trucks, it is very easy to transition over and, from an employers point of view, it is an asset to have someone with this skill. The reason for this is that if the Water Cart operator does not turn up for work, they have to have someone to replace them, so having this qualification makes you more valuable to them and is the start to becoming a multi-skilled operator.

WHAT DO YOU GAIN

Whilst training you will be taught the following:

  • Pre-start machinery check / Post-machinery check (this teaches you how to look around your truck to see if there are any defects – check out our video on this)
  • Learn about the truck interior and the function of all the equipment
  • Horn signalling – you use your horns in the industry to signal when entering / leaving pits etc
  • Positive radio communications
  • Mine site safety protocols with regards to machinery operations
  • How to drive the machine empty / loaded
  • Correct spray patterns to reduce dust suppression
  • Emergency braking
  • How to control truck in slippery conditions
  • The gears to use when driving up / down hill
  • How to “tag out” equipment

COURSE DURATION

The course runs for a minimum of 2 days at our Ipswich site where you will be working under the Mining and Quarry Act. If combined with the Dump Truck course, the timeframe may be reduced due to the fact that both machines you will be operating are CAT773’s so you will be getting driving experience no matter which truck you are in.

OUTCOME

At the end of the course, you achieve a full Statement of Attainment for – RIIMPO206D Conduct Bulk Water Truck Operations which lasts 5 years.
This will allow you to operate any size / style of rigid haul trucks on site (this qualification can also be used on civil sites).

This course is run by the awesome trainers from My Solution using the material from their partnering RTO Tectra (RTO 40889).
Between them they have over 60 years mining knowledge and experience and are friendly and helpful.
