Course Overview
The Standard 11 Induction, also commonly known as the Generic Induction, is designed to provide participants with the fundamental safety knowledge and skills required to work within the mining industry.
The course introduces the safety procedures, workplace requirements and responsibilities commonly encountered on mine sites. It is similar in principle to a construction White Card, but provides more detailed training specifically focused on mining environments.
Participants learn about workplace health and safety, hazard identification, risk management, workplace communication, emergency response and first aid. The course also covers practical skills such as completing mine-site safety documentation, understanding workplace procedures and interpreting site safety signage.

Course Specifics
The Standard 11 Induction incorporates six units of competency covering the core safety skills and workplace knowledge required for work within the mining industry.
RIIWHS201D – Work Safely and Follow WHS Policies and Procedures
Develop an understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and the procedures required to work safely within an operational environment.
RIIERR205D – Apply Initial Response First Aid
Learn how to assess an incident, provide an initial first aid response and complete relevant incident documentation.
RIIGOV201D – Comply with Site Work Processes/Procedures
Learn how to access and follow site safety procedures, apply appropriate personal safety measures and complete site-related documentation.
RIIRIS201D – Conduct Local Risk Control
Develop skills in hazard identification, risk assessment and applying appropriate controls within a mining environment.
RIICOM201D – Communicate in the Workplace
Learn how to access and use workplace communication equipment and systems, communicate effectively with others and complete required written workplace documentation.
RIIERR302D – Respond to Local Emergencies and Incidents
Develop the knowledge required to prepare for and respond appropriately to emergencies and incidents within a mining environment.
Course Outcome
Upon successful completion of the required training and assessments, participants receive a Statement of Attainment, which the existing course page states is valid for five years.
The competencies completed as part of the Standard 11 Induction may also contribute towards further mining qualifications, including the Certificate II in Surface Extraction Operations and Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue.

Where To Train
Online Training
The majority of the Standard 11 Induction can be completed online at your own pace, giving participants greater flexibility when completing the theoretical components of the course.
Raceview Practical Training
A 1.5-hour practical component must also be completed at the Raceview training facility. Trainer assistance can also be arranged for participants who require additional support while completing the course.
